Hello! I am Sayani Mallick. I have been selected as an Outreachy’21 intern with Eclipse Adoptium and it is one of the most wonderful things to happen to me this year!
Who am I?
I am a sophomore in BITS Pilani, India. I am enthusiastic in web development and problem solving. I am a beginner in Flutter development and machine learning.
When I do not have my eyes glued to the computer screen, I paint and sketch and I have an art account where I post my artworks regularly. I love reading books, especially detective novels and listening to music. My favourite genre in movies is horror. I have recently taken a liking to listening to meaningful podcasts.
I believe that I am very passionate towards computer science. I am always eager to learn new technologies and implement them. Having chats about tech is something I absolutely love.
What interested me in Computer Science?
I started coding in my eighth grade and I absolutely loved to code in Java and C++. I would spend hours solving C++ problems. I built my first website in eighth grade. This got me completely hooked to the computer screen. This is what motivated me to choose a career in Computer Science.
I started learning web development in my first year in college during the summer. It had been a steep learning curve but I enjoyed it so much that there had been no looking back or getting tired. I got a few internships after three months of learning web development and worked passionately. I got to learn a lot from my team-mates and realized how important and useful it is to learn and grow together.
My core values
My core values are curiosity, determination and sincerity. It is curiosity and inquisitiveness that has led me to explore the various sides of life – be it technology, be it my hobbies. I have never shied away from new things, new terms. I have always approached my work with an open mind. Determination and commitment to my work encourages me to take risks and actions to accomplish my goals. I believe in enjoying the journey to my goal as much as the goal itself because the end-result is not in our hands, the journey is. Sincerity towards everything I do is my motto. I believe in collaboration over competition.
I believe that technology is best used when it can be used for the betterment of the society. This is where comes in my belief that software and technology are instruments in the hands of the developer.
I believe in saying ‘Yes’ to all the opportunities that come my way because you miss 100% of the shots you donot take!
What lies ahead?
It has been almost a week since I got my acceptance email for Outreachy’21. For the next three months, I will be working as an intern for Eclipse Adoptium on the project ‘Simplify and gamify external AQA tests’ (Codename: Tweetest). I am looking forward to an enriching experience and great learning opportunity. I plan on blogging about my experience every week. Meet you all again next week! Wish me luck!
